Income tax representation-NFAC – National Faceless Assessment Centers
Under the current regime, most of the cases have moved to faceless assessments, appeals and penal proceedings. Under this scenario, one has to be ever alert in watching out for notices from NFAC. Such notices are made available in the login of the assessee and is simultaneously sent via the registered mail id of the assessee. Assessees should take precaution and ensure that their mail id is provided in the portal in their login and not the mail id of their tax consultant or outsourced professional handling tax matters as it is the primary responsibility of the tax payer to respond to the notice.

- Direct and in person representation before tax authorities – In case any of the tax authority (at any level in the income tax office) needs to be met in person (in Chennai) we can go over to their office and meet them in person and explain your case and seek a resolution in any matter.
- Login to income tax portal – We will keep a constant vigil at your login in the income tax portal and let you know of any developments and notices which are posted in your login.
- Reply to assessment proceedings – We help in drafting suitable reply to various notices which may be served on you from time to time. It is pertinent to note that if on time response is not provided it would lead to penalties under the Income Tax Act. We at PhygiTech are experts in drafting replies to be submitted to tax authorities as we have gained valuable insight into how a tax man looks at these replies and what he is actually expecting in your reply.
- The returns filed by taxpayers are picked up for further scrutiny based on various criteria. The tax department has in its possession data obtained from multiple sources at different points of time. It corroborates this data with the income tax return [ITR] filed to check if the data points match. If there is any mis-match between the data or if it feels an elevated risk, it would shoot out a notice seeking further information from the tax payer. If such notices are not handled correctly at the right time it would lead to unnecessary re-opening of assessment. In such reassessment proceedings it would become more difficult to convince a tax officer to accept taxpayers point of view.
